Music Mountain Waste Services was founded in June 2020 as Music Mountain Compost, providing Vermonters with a convenient way to separate food scraps from household and commercial waste. Since then, the business has grown by offering reliable compost collection and processing all collected food waste at its Rochester facility, where it is transformed into quality, nutrient-rich soil. In 2026, Music Mountain expanded its services to include residential trash and recycling pickup, creating a more complete and convenient waste solution for communities across Vermont.
About Zach Cavacas
Zach Cavacas is the owner and operator of Music Mountain Waste Services. A lifelong Vermonter, Zach lives in Chittenden with his wife and two children. He founded the company to provide convenient, dependable services that make everyday life easier while supporting the local community and protecting Vermont’s environment.
Zach’s background in homesteading gives him a practical understanding of composting, Vermont’s food-waste requirements, and how organic materials can be transformed into a valuable environmental resource. He is proud to contribute to Vermont’s strong small-business community and remains actively involved in his hometown as a selectboard member, firefighter, tree warden, and Freemason.
Music Mountain Waste Services offers biweekly compost pickup for $22 per month. We empty and sanitize your five-gallon bucket before returning it to you, making it easy to keep food scraps out of the landfill. In select towns, we also offer trash and recycling pickup with a convenient 96-gallon container. Biweekly service is $38 per month, while weekly service is $58 per month. Compost pickup can be added to either trash plan for just $20 per month. We proudly serve communities throughout Central and Southern Vermont. Vermont Permit #2325.
